Recent assignments

Eric Van Hooydonk was recently entrusted with the following assignments:

  • legal assistance with a view to the establishment of an autonomous city-owned company for city planning in Antwerp (2008)
  • chairmanship of an expert team entrusted with the reform of the regime of cargo handling in Antwerp and of the customs of the port (2007-2008)
  • appointment as an independent expert for the evaluation of transport research proposals by the European Commission (2007)
  • chairmanship of the newly established Royal Commission for the Revision of Belgian Maritime Law (2007)
  • preparation of an opinion on the port-city relationship on behalf of the Port of Helsinki (2007)
  • preparation of a Soft Values Management Masterplan for the Port of Antwerp (2007)
  • coordination of the expert team which will prepare a fundamental reform of the Belgian Maritime Code on behalf of the Belgian Royal Shipowners' Association and the Belgian Government (2006-2007)
  • legal assistance to the Vientiane-based Mekong River Commission with a view to negotiations between Cambodia and Viet Nam on navigation on the Lower Mekong (2006-2007)
  • contribution as an international river law expert to the Masterplan for navigation on the Mekong River in Cambodia (2005-2006)
  • study on the strengths and weaknesses of Belgian maritime law and policy on behalf of the Royal Belgian Shipowners' Association (2005-2006)
  • legal assistance with a view to the establishment of an autonomous municipal enterprise for real property management and other activities in two Antwerp municipalities (2005-2006)
  • legal research into alternative management formulas for the Antwerp Left Bank Port Area (2005-2006)
  • legal supervision of the PPP framework for the development of a multifunctional vessel for buoying, pollution protection and salvage (2005-2006)
  • study on the impact of European environmental law on the waterways and ports sector within the framework of the Maritime Transport Coordination Platform of the European Commission (2005-2006)
  • participation as a member of the Flemish delegation in negotiations with Dutch authorities on the Scheldt treaties (2005)
  • drafting of an expert opinion on the right of access to places of refuge for ships in distress on behalf of the New York court in the case of the M/V Prestige (2005)
